Holy @#$%! Donny Catches a HUGE Walleye (
)
Tonight was a very
eventful night after days of mediocrity.
We started off at the Finger just for old times
sake and good thing we did...there were tons of
walleye swimming all around us. I caught
one right off the bat, but then lost it as I
picked it up with the net (stupid net). I
reprieved myself as I nailed another one a few
minutes later. I caught them on a
black/silver Challenger. The moon was
three quarters full and the black and silver
finish seems to work best when the moon is out
and the sky is clear. It shows as a
silhouette and some shine to the walleye.
Conversely, Donny
caught his walleye at the Finger on a
purple/silver Challenger. The conditions
were much different when he caught his.
The sky was very overcast and was blocking the
moon. This is a great strategy that has
been working very well for us.
We were expecting to
meet John at Godfrey Point, but ran late because
we spent so much time messing with the finicky
walleye at the Finger. But, John
stayed at Godfrey waiting for us. Good
thing he did. I waded out in the water,
way out to the right and Donny stayed on the
dock fishing across the boat channel.
Donny was casting into a small school of walleye
and got the surprise of his life. He
latched onto a huge walleye. Suddenly
screams for the net were heard as I was way out
in 3 feet of water. John jogged over to
Donny and prepared the net. I was not too
concerned as Donny normally screams out that he
has a big one on and it always ends up being an
average size walleye.
Not this time.
I began to believe him when John also joined in
on the foray and screamed that it was huge.
I made my way out of the water and was astounded
that he mailed this 27 inch walleye. They
hauled it in and we shot some video.
We made our last
stop of the night to Tony's house. There
were a few walleye in the water, but very
spooked by the lights, so did not make a very
easy time catching them. Donny got sick
and went back to the truck, but I stayed for
another 20 minutes and caught one.
Unfortunately, John was skunked again.
